Students join our campaign for 100% renewable energy

The generation with the most to lose is tackling the climate crisis head-on, with help from a member of Congress.
On Feb. 20, as they travelled the state on a 100 percent renewable energy tour, WashPIRG Students joined us and U.S. Rep. Pramila Jayapal, a climate leader at the state and federal level, in Seattle to call for support for Washington’s 100% Clean Electricity bill, SB 5116.
“Washington state has both the capacity and will be a nationwide leader on 100 percent clean renewable energy,” said Environment Washington’s Chris Connolly. “With other states and scores of cities and corporations committing to cleaner, healthier future for our kids an our planet, Washington has an obligation to take a strong, clear position.”
The bill, which would eliminate coal power by 2025 and and set a goal for all utilities to be 100 percent clean by 2045, passed the State Senate on Mar. 1.
