Snohomish County is the fifth local government to commit to 100% renewable energy

On Feb. 20, the Snohomish County Council unanimously passed a resolution committing the county to 100 percent renewable energy. The resolution sets a goal of 100 percent clean electricity by 2030 and 100 percent clean energy sector-wide by 2045. Snohomish County follows Edmonds, Whatcom County, Bellingham and Spokane in committing to 100 percent renewable energy.
“This action is evidence that communities across Washington are ready for 100 percent clean, renewable energy,” said Chris Connolly, an associate with Environment Washington. “We can see that an economy powered by renewable energy is within our reach. But to get there we need local, state and federal leadership. With this action, Snohomish County is showing the way for a clean energy future in Washington state.”
This commitment comes as Environment Washington urges state legislators to support a bill that would achieve carbon-neutral electricity by 2030 and set a goal of 100 percent renewable electricity by 2045.
