Renewable Energy

Current Campaign

Clean, Renewable, Homegrown Energy: America has virtually unlimited potential to generate electricity from renewable sources of energy like wind and solar power. Environment Washington is calling on Congress to support policies to get 25 percent of our nation’s energy from clean, renewable sources by 2025. The most important step toward achieving this goal is a requirement that 20 percent of our electricity come for renewable sources. To achieve the rest of our goal we should shift to clean, alternative transportation fuels like ethanol and biodiesel. Read more.

Overview

Washington's increasing energy demand is leading to skyrocketing prices and more pollution. Public health and the economy are paying the price for decades of dangerous energy policy.

The coal, nuclear and natural gas companies and some utilities are recommending we meet our energy challenges by building more fossil fuel and nuclear plants. More coal is unacceptable for our health and our environment, and nuclear power will leave us with a legacy of radioactive waste. Furthermore, increased reliance on natural gas will put us at risk of Enron-style price spikes.

Environment Washington helped to pass I-937, a ballot initiative that will require more clean, renewable energy and promote energy conservation. Next up, we’re working to reduce our dependence on oil, and create even more opportunities for clean, renewable, homegrown energy.
